Income Tax department raids premises of Quint, founder Raghav Bahl’s home, media organisation’s office

NEW DELHI: The Income Tax Department Thursday searched premises of co-founder of The Quint and former Network18 promoter Raghav Bahl with a case of alleged tax evasion, officials said.

Raghav Bahl, in a statement to the Editor’s Guild, said: “I have a matter of great concern to share with the Guild. While I was in Mumbai this morning, dozens of IT officials descended on my residence and The Quint’s office for a ‘survey’.” Bahl is the founder of the Quint news portal and the Network18 group and is a known media entrepreneur.

Concern and anger over the raids reflected in multiple tweets on social media. Senior journalist Shekhar Gupta expressed serious concern, saying the raids looked like intimidation of media critical to the government.
